    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the Béchamel Sauce:

    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
    • 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    • Salt to taste

    • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese

    • Add the ground beef and pork. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
    • Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.
    • Add the crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30-40 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  2. Make the Béchamel Sauce:

    • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring, until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Season with salt and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the Lasagna:

    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.

    • Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
    • Repeat the layering process, finishing with a layer of béchamel sauce and cheese on top.
  4. Bake the Lasagna:

    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
    • Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
