Instructions:

  1. Cook the Vegetables:

    • Peel and dice the potatoes and carrots into small cubes.
    • Boil the potatoes, carrots, and peas in separate pots of salted water until tender (about 10-15 minutes for potatoes and carrots, 5 minutes for peas).
    • Drain the vegetables and let them cool.
  2. Prepare the Other Ingredients:

    • Dice the hard-boiled eggs, pickles, and ham or chicken (if using) into small cubes.
  3. Assemble the Salad:

    • In a large bowl, combine the cooled vegetables, eggs, pickles, and ham or chicken.
    • Add the mayonnaise and mustard (if using) to the bowl.
    • Mix everything thoroughly until well combined. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
